And this blog, Rashida Bohra Flavours, is my heartfelt tribute to my mother and her incredible culinary legacy.

ToggleI am the voice, author, and creator behind this space, where I blend my passion for food, travel, and culture with the unique flavours and traditions that have shaped my life. My journey into the world of blogging began on YouTube, where I shared my mother’s recipes, and now, I’m excited to expand that journey here.
The name Munira originates from Arabic, meaning “bright,” “shining,” or “brilliant.” It reflects the light and warmth I hope to bring to this blog. My mother’s name, Rashida, means “wise,” “mature,” or “righteous,” and it perfectly encapsulates the essence of who she was and the values she instilled in me.
Growing up in Mombasa, East Africa, food has always been a central part of my life. My mother, born in Pemba, Tanzania, and married to my father, who was born in Mombasa, had a gift for creating delicious dishes from whatever was available, ensuring nothing was wasted. This respect for food, deeply rooted in our Dawoodi Bohra heritage, is something I carry with me to this day.
Our community teaches us to cherish every grain, and my mother’s creative use of leftovers to craft new dishes was a perfect example of this principle. After I lost her to a brain tumour in 2020, I realised that keeping her recipes to myself would be a disservice to her talent. So, I began sharing her culinary magic on YouTube, and now, I’m bringing those treasured recipes to this blog.
I was born and raised in Mombasa, surrounded by the rich flavours of East African street food. My mother’s recipes are a beautiful blend of our Dawoodi Bohra, Gujarati, and East African roots. As a Bohra, our culinary traditions are influenced by our origins in Yemen and our long history in India. Now, living in Kuwait and being married to an Indian, my recipes also include flavours from Yemen, Kuwait, and other Middle Eastern countries.
I’m not just a food enthusiast; I’m also an artist with a master’s degree in jewellery design. My love for creativity extends to painting, drawing, mehndi, and even web designing.
I’m also a Wilton-certified professional baker, a chocolatier, and I’ve spent the last 12 years perfecting my craft. Travelling is another passion of mine, and I especially love exploring new halal foods in every country I visit.
Recently, I’ve also fallen in love with K-dramas, which has sparked an interest in South Korean culture.
I take great pride in the work I do. My writing on Dawoodi Bohra food practices was featured in Indo Gulf Times, an opportunity that allowed me to share our unique traditions with a wider audience.
Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with several restaurants and hotels, where I provided honest feedback and reviews, helping to highlight the best of what they offer.
This blog, Rashida Bohra Flavours, is a fusion of my two YouTube channels: East African Foodie and Rashida Bohra Flavours.
Here, I’ll share not only my mother’s recipes but also my travel experiences, food explorations, and lifestyle tips. This space is dedicated to preserving her legacy, sharing our family’s unique recipes, and documenting the spiritual journeys we took together to places like Tanzania and India, Cairo, Jordan, Iraq, USA and Damascus, where I travelled alone and share it’s travel and food findings among many others.
Rashida Bohra Flavours stands out because it’s more than just a recipe blog; it’s a celebration of heritage, culture, and the wisdom passed down through generations. Each recipe is a story, a connection to the past, and a way to honour my mother’s memory.
Here, you’ll find a mix of traditional Bohra dishes, East African street food, Gujarati-Kenyan flavours, and a touch of Middle Eastern cuisine. This blog is where tradition meets innovation, all while staying true to the values my mother taught me.
I’m thrilled to share this journey with you, and I hope you find inspiration, comfort, and joy in the stories and recipes I share. Let’s keep the legacy of Rashida Bohra Flavours alive, one dish at a time.
